Jacob Fisher Cayton

We've had a busy week with the arrival of our third child Jacob Fisher Cayton. Jacob was born on 3/3/10 at 8:43 p.m. Mom and baby are both doing great. I photographed Jacob in the same bassonet as I did with Harper. Click here to see Harper's photograph to compare. At nine pounds, Jacob's a big baby:) Jacob is a family name on both sides. Here's a biographical passage I found about my Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather Jacob Ungeheuer, a German immigrant, Civil War veteran and successful farmer from Linn County, Kansas: "The life of Mr. Ungeheuer affords a striking example of what is in the power of every energetic ambitious man to accomplish for himself. Beginning with no moneyed capital, in a country whose language and people were strange to him, he continued steadfastly and patiently at his work, and in due time was rewarded with prosperity..." Fisher is also a family name. Here's a picture of his namesake Lee Fisher, my Godfather, during a visit with Abby when she was small.

Baby Zach

It's true! My couples do have children after they're wed and this picture of baby Zach proves it:) On Sunday, I photographed baby Zach with his parents Jill and Josh and the rest of Jill's family while they were visiting Denver. Jill and Josh had a fabulous wedding on the West lawn of the Broadmoor in 2006. It was great to see them again! Click here to see slide show of their wedding day. If any of my couples need family photographs to prove the existence of their children call or e-mail me anytime:) — Sean

Baby Brynn, 9 months old

I photographed 9-month-old-Brynn and her family earlier this week. I've been photographing her since she was born, you can see her past photo sessions here. I also photographed her brother Declan and we created a great book. See the book and photos here. I've always been very pleased with the photos from my sessions with Brynn and Declan, but this time was even better, this time I began photographing before 8 am. I know, it's early, but it was worth it! Brynn was so awake and ready for her day! Her expressions were priceless! —Cathy

Little Sophie

Kim and Todd were married in 2006. They are a beautiful couple and it comes as no surprise that their first child would be beautiful too! Little Sophie is four months old and she's such a darling! I finally got to meet her when I photographed her a week ago. Check out a slide show from that photo session… Can you believe those cheeks?! — Cathy

Harper's Red Head

In case you didn't notice, Harper is a red head. Sean's mother and my grandfather (nickname: Red) both had red hair and I guess we carry the recessive gene. Harper also has very brown eyes, not brown like mine, darker like Sean's mother. I took this photo yesterday while he was looking especially cute in his red pjs with the flap on the behind. — Cathy

A year in the life of Baby Isabella

Isabella's beautiful Year in the Life book arrived. It is an awesome picture story of her first year. We started when she was a few days old and ended with her first steps. While it's not unusual for us to photograph these stages, it's not often that we get to put them all in one storytelling album. The transformation that takes place over the first year of a child's life is nothing short of amazing. As a newborn, they are tiny, precious and helpless. By the end of the first year they are mobile, starting to talk and soindependent! What a privilege to photograph these milestones of Isabella's first year! If you're interested in doing something like this, please call! We would love to have another chance at documenting a year-in-the-life of your little one. —Cathy

You may remember Declan, a little cutie that I've photographed for the past year from his pictures I posted here, here and here. Well Declan is a big brother! Brynn was born Sept. 15 weighing 8 lbs 4 oz. I photographed her Tuesday and she was quite the willing model, eating and sleeping right on cue. What a beauty! Isabella at 10 months

Isabella turns 1 in April. She is tall (like her mom and dad) and could be walking before her birthday. I can't believe how quickly babies transform into toddlers! Bella is a darling. This shoot is part of a Year in the Life project I started for Isabella. See our first three sessions here, here, and here. — Cathy

Vivian at six months

I stopped by Jen and Mike's recently to photograph their daughter Vivian. Vivian is six months old now and cute as a button, she still has HUGE eyes and she's starting to eat some "solid" food. We had a lot of fun feeding her, giving her a bath and then photographing her with Mom and Dad. —Cathy

Happy Birthday Declan!

Declan is one year old! He celebrated with a party with his family and friends. Everyone enjoyed the balloons and cake. Declan like the cake as you an see, but didn't care for the ice cream… a little too cold I think! Here's a photo from his happy day! –Cathy

Harper at 2 weeks

Cathy and I went to our follow-up appointment with Laura Luckett, our midwife, and this happened. I didn't have my camera, but Laura let me use hers to make this picture. Here I want to thank Laura for all she's done. Laura has overseen two births at our home and it's just been the most incredible experience. Laura and her partner Robin operate the Colorado Springs Midwifery Center. If you're having a baby and you want to remove the hospital experience from the birth experience, then consider Laura and Robin. They are both professional and personal... and they have extra cameras lying around when you really need one:) Thanks again Laura! — Sean

Do you see a resemblance?

I was visiting my mother this weekend and she pulled out newborn photographs of me and my brother. I was struck by Harper's resemblance. (He is in the middle:) Can you figure out which one is my brother and which one is me? Place your bets in our comments! — Sean

Harper Stites Cayton

From the book The Secret Universe of Names: The letter R resonates with cheeky sexuality, which explains why it's the initial letter of romance, rakish, rebel, risque, ruddy, randy, racy and robust. But in combination with the hushed and humble tones of the letter H, the R generates the words that describe the more admirable aspects of human endeavors heroic, honor, harmonious, heart, hardy, and humor. These emotive qualities reflect the way HR people typically wear their hearts on their sleeves. To really know an HR is to find it difficult to resist the hearty and down-to-earth personality. HRs have the rare ability to put other people at ease without appearing smug or condescending. HRs may be solicitous and gentle with their loved ones, but they're not overburdened with patience. Still, even if they vent with the occasional burst of bad humor, everyone knows that it's more bark that bite. It's a good idea not to push them too far or too often, though, for over time, even these otherwise-harmonious individuals will become cranky and unreasonable. HRs amble through life with an abiding hatred of routine, which is why you won't find them slugging away at the nine-to-five grind unless forced into it by the prospect of poverty. These are capable people who have a lot to offer and aren't the kind to take a backseat to anyone. Typically, they're attracted to jobs that promise creative freedom (or at least a high degree of autonomy) and the most common complaint about the HRs is that they'll sometimes take their independent philosophies to the extreme and make far too many reckless decisions. HRs are introspective people who are dedicated to their ideals and convictions. And as friends, HRs are almost without peer. Trustworthy, reliable and dependable, they understand that the responsibilities of friendship extend beyond the casual familiarity and the occasional drink. To them, a friend in need is a call to arms, and they'll reflexively volunteer their services without having to be asked. HRs tend to choose mates who can balance their adventurous aspects with responsible and grounded outlooks. But in their zeal to find mates who can offer them the stability they need, they run the risk of settling for women who don't appreciate their unconventional perspectives. Still, because HRs are quick learners and masters in the art of compromise, their marriages are more stable and permanent than most. — Sean, Cathy, Abby and Harper

One camera, one lens; two beautiful children

Abby's feeling a little left out after the newest family member (still unnamed:) arrived. So we baked a 'Your the Best' chocolate cake, a gift from Mammo. That made her happy. Last night I left my camera on the nightstand and awoke at 5:30 this morning to find the littlest one, very mellow but quite aware of his surroundings. — Sean

Baby Max

Max is growing up so fast! I photographed him last year as an eight-month-old (click here). Now he's running, talking and climbing on everything. I had a tough time keeping up with this toddler…my baby belly kept getting in the way! Still we a had great time going to the park, chasing the ducks and geese and climbing all over the play ground. It's amazing how quickly a baby grows! Click here to view a brief slideshow. — Cathy

Isabella is such a little flower! She's growing so fast and she's found her smile! She's six months old now and she's sitting up and tasting solid food, which makes for some fun faces. I did a portrait session before Halloween. Click here to see a brief slideshow of Isabella. — Cathy

Declan at 8 months

Baby Declan is growing up! He's 8 months old and all smiles (except when tasting Cheerios!) It's amazing to see how much a baby changes in four short months. When I photographed him in June he wasn't crawling or trying to walk, he wasn't eating solid food, and he definitely wasn't climbing the stairs! (Here's a link to my earlier post.)I photographed him, mom and dad on Saturday. We had a great time and I have the photos to prove it! Click here to see a brief slideshow. — Cathy

Welcome Baby Vivian

I photographed the brand new baby Vivian on Sunday. She was born Aug. 22 to our good friends Jennifer and Mike. She's such a doll…quiet, happy and super-mellow (she sleeps a lot too!). If all newborns were like Vivian everyone would want one! My session with them is part of a year-in-the-life project. — Cathy

Baby Bella at 3 months

I visited our good friends Mike and Melissa recently and photographed Baby Isabella again. You may remember an earlier post when Sean and I visited them to take some newborn pictures. Well Bella's 3-months-old now and it seems like it was yesterday that we did those first pictures. How time flies! Bella is as cute as can be. Melissa and Mike have a great sunny bedroom so we did a bunch of photos on their bed…then we headed to the front porch for some portraits. My session with them is also part of a year-in-the-life project. — Cathy

Baby Declan

I photographed baby Declan on Friday. He is such a happy and expressive four-month-old! He was especially happy when Daddy brought out his "G-raff" (translation: giraffe) I had some beautiful light since we scheduled an early morning session, around Declan's nap time. After photographing under the skylights in David and Jill's bedroom we moved outside for a family portrait. — Cathy

Our little prawn

It's official. Cathy and I are expecting our second child in December. We plan on having the baby at home as we did with Abby. Our midwife Laura of the Colorado Springs Midwifery Center says this sonogram I've posted here shows our baby at about the size of medium prawn:) Not sure what that means but we're going to roll with it. It's a little scary thinking about a second child. I knew we could do one, but two is going to be more challenging. We have many friends with two children so it's nice to have some role models as well as people to lean on for advice. — Sean p.s. if you're watching this blog to see your wedding photographs come online, hang tight! We're working right now on them and promise to have them up very soon.

Baby Isabella — a love story, a life story

Baby Isabella was born April 23 to Mike and Melissa. You may have seen our earlier posts about the proud parents Mike and Melissa. They were our wedding clients, and now they are our neighbors, and we have become really good friends. Sean and I visited them this week and took some time to make some cute baby pictures of their darling little girl. I can't believe it, but already she is one-month-old. Before Isabella was born I did a maternity sitting for Melissa and Mike. And we made pictures of them with their 'first' children; their dogs Bandit and Indi. After photographing their wedding and watching their family grow, it makes me appreciate what a great job we have as photographers. I think Melissa said it best when we visited Isabella the other day, 'You guys have the coolest job, you get to hang out with your friends and photograph them.' She's right. We do have pretty cool jobs. But we also have some pretty cool friends too! — Cathy

Baby Anja

Marianne and I photographed six-and-a-half-month old Anja on Wednesday. She is so darling! When we arrived arrived at her house in Cheyenne Canyon we found sunlight streaming into a hall from an overhead sky light and indirect light from a sliding glass door. It took her a few minutes to warm up to a photographer with a big camera pointed at her. But Anja was completely enamored with Marianne! To view a slideshow of Anja's photographs click here. — Cathy

Bathtime with Judson and Abby

Abby's friend Judson came over yesterday. Mom and Dad asked us to watch little Judd (although he's not so little:) Judd just had his second birthday and boy does he know a lot of words! We're hoping that Abby can start to pick up a few extra words soon. Before they went to sleep Abby and Judd enjoyed a pre-bedtime bath. They were too cute, so here are a couple pictures. — Sean

Welcome baby Lilah!

Lilah Rose was born at home to Kate and Don on Thursday, March 8 at 8:50 pm. She weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and was 20 inches long. I met Kate and Don through our midwife Laura at the Colorado Springs Midwifery Center. I've gotten to know them better over the past two years. Our daughters meet each week for "Happy Hour" aka, play group. I did a maternity session with Kate and the whole family a few weeks ago, click here to see that post. When Kate asked me to photograph her birth I didn't hesitate. It was an incredible experience. Congratulations to Kate and Don on their beautiful, healthy baby girl. Maeve will make a great big sister! —Cathy
