Erin and Austin's Shove Chapel Wedding (Sneak Peek)

Erin and Austin were married at Shove Chapel Sat., August 15, 2009. Their reception was held at the Fine Arts Center just a couple blocks from Shove. Erin got ready at the Broadmoor Hotel and we arranged for a private moment on the bridge. I also love this shot of Erin walking down the aisle with her Dad. Erin and Austin's wedding day had some cool details like a dove release, scooters for the bridal party and a fiery send-off by sparkler. Destination wedding itinerary - Colorado Springs style

Last week I finished a destination wedding Colorado Springs style. The couple asked me to refrain from showing any images of their wedding until after two hometown receptions are held. Still, it was an incredible three-day wedding itinerary and I was invited to photograph it completely! On the first day, the wedding guests traveled to the Arkansas river for a rafting trip with Echo Canyon River Expeditions. A BBQ on the Broadmoor's north lawn followed the rafting trip. On the second day, guests traveled to the top of Pikes Peak via the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. That was followed by a private tour of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and a catered dinner after closing time. On the wedding day a small, intimate ceremony was held at Pauline Chapel followed by a lunch reception at the Mountain View Terrace. Maggie of Celebrations by Maggie planned the affair. Stay tuned for more images from this wedding after the receptions! — Sean

Jee and Jong's Colorado Springs Wedding

Jee and Jong were married Saturday, June 5 at the New Life Methodist Church in Colorado Springs. I posted a sneak peek of their wedding here. Jee and Jong's wedding day was a family affair, Jee's aunt and the women of the church prepared a Korean feast for the wedding. When I showed up for the rehearsal there was an army of women preparing all types of traditional Korean fare for the reception. On the day of the wedding, they were there early to finish the final touches to the meal. Jee and Jong had two wedding ceremonies, the first a Christian ceremony, then a traditional Korean ceremony (Pae Baek) for the immediate families. I had never attended a Pae Baek and I had no ideas what to expect. So Jee sent me a link with a description. The Pae Baek is the Korean wedding ritual where the groom's family accepts the bride into their family. Traditional the couple and the groom's family were the only ones in attendance. In a modernized version, both families attend. The table is set tea or rice wine and a variety of foods including dates, chestnuts, sweets and dried meats. The couple serves their families and in turn the families offer their advice and blessing to the couple. While they had more than 100 guests at the Christian ceremony, the Pae Baek was much more intimate with less than 15 people present. Click here to see a slide show of their wedding day. Thanks so much Jee and Jong for inviting me to photograph your amazing wedding! —Cathy

Lynn and Joe's Coffee Table Book

Lynn and Joe's album just arrived and I can't wait to send it to them! They had a very intimate June wedding on the South Terrace at the Broadmoor, with only 30 or so guests followed by dinner in the Penrose Room. Though they had a small wedding, Lynn andJoe selected a bunch of great images and we designed a 60-page coffee table book to showcase their wedding. Lynn also ordereda full size duplicate of her album for her mother. The coffee table book has a slip cover (hot stamped with the couple's name) and adust jacket. The pages are laminated linen for a smooth look and extra protection. Here's a link to their wedding slide show, in caseyou missed it. I'm so glad they asked me to be a part of their wedding. They are a delightful couple and I can't wait for them tosee their fabulous book! -Cathy

Marissa and Joshua's Engagement Sitting

Marissa and Joshua arrived in Colorado Springs on a beautiful and warm Saturday in the 50's. By Sunday the temperature had dropped to below zero and stayed that way when they met with me for their engagement shoot Monday afternoon. The freezing temperature didn't seem to matter to either of them. This is the first time they've been together in months. Joshua is stationed in London and Marissa lives near Seattle. So I guess you could say that just being together kept them warm and cozy:) So we headed off to the Garden of the Gods and then we stopped at the Broadmoor Hotel for some hot cocoa. We had a wonderful afternoon together. Click here to see a brief slide show of their engagement. Marissa and Joshua, I can't wait for your wedding at the Air Force Academy in June! I'm certain it's going to be a lot warmer:) — Sean

The Vigil Family

For the past several years I've photographed the Vigil family. See some of our other sessions here and here. This year they decided to a do a big family photograph. Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Cousins. They were all here. So after doing the proper pictures, which involved posing and lights, we ran out to the West Lawn of the Broadmoor Hotel to watch the geese and just be. That's when I grabbed these pictures. There was Uncle Joey with his niece Mary Jean. There was Sophie with her aunt, Sister Lucia. Then there was sisters Clair and Lily hanging out. Little moments, really. Hardly worth mentioning, except in pictures. When I can find the time and space to do this for such a wonderful family, I am truly happy. — Sean

Maggie and Oliver's Colorado Springs Wedding (A Sneak Peek)

On Saturday I photographed Maggie and Oliver's wedding at St. Paul Catholic Church. They celebrated afterwards with a reception at the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club. You may remember Maggie and Oliver's engagement sitting from last winter. Maggie came to us by referral. Sean photographed her brother Mike's wedding to Gina last October. During the planning stages, Maggie told me she wanted photos with mountains. Unfortunately, you couldn't see any mountains from the church, even though it is very close to Cheyenne Mountain. Nor could you see them at the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club. Not to be deterred…Maggie and Oliver opted for photos at the Broadmoor on the west lawn. As it turned out, it couldn't have been more perfect. We got the mountain views they wanted and we got some great photos on the west side of the Broadmoor! Watch for a slide show of their wedding shortly. —Cathy

Angela and Jeff's Broadmoor Wedding

An earlier post gave a sneak peek of Angela and Jeff's wedding. They were married June 7 on the West Lawn at the Broadmoor and hosted cocktails on the patio and dinner for guests in the Ross Room. Carolyn and Colleen of Classic Designs helped them plan their destination wedding. Before the ceremony Angela and Jeff chose to meet near the West Lawn ceremony site for a private moment, afterwards we walked along on the west side of the lake stopping for photographs along the way. All in all Angela and Jeff's wedding day was wonderful. What was especially nice for me was how in-the-moment they and their guests were, everyone focused on celebrating and having fun. Which was great because I could focus on capturing the moments as they unfolded. Thank you Angela and Jeff for inviting me to photograph your wedding! Lynn and Joe's Broadmoor Wedding

Lynn and Joe were married on the South Terrace at the Broadmoor on Friday, June 6. I posted a sneak peek of their wedding here. With help from Colleen of Classic Designs, Lynn and Joe planned a destination wedding for a small group of friends and family. On their wedding day, Joe presented Lynn with a fabulous sapphire pendant that belongs to his mother, something borrowed and very blue to wear on her wedding day:) After a simple but beautiful ceremony on the South Terrace, Lynn and Joe joined their guests for drinks at sunset and dinner in the Penrose Room. The Penrose Room is at the top of the Broadmoor's South Tower. On the ninth floor, the Penrose Room offers views of the lake and mountains to the west and the city to the east. That night we had a perfect view of an impromptu fireworks display. Click here to see a brief slide show of their wedding. Thank you Lynn and Joe for letting me be a part of your wedding! – Cathy

Lisa and Jim's Colorado Springs Wedding

I posted a sneak peak of Lisa and Jim's wedding here. They were married on a beautiful spring afternoon Tuesday May 27. I loved photographing their wedding. It was simple: there were only eight guests! It was in a beautiful setting; their ceremony was held in their garden at home. It was elegant; they hosted a private dinner for their guests in the Penrose Room at the Broadmoor. It was fun; a local high school a capella group serenaded them after the wedding. Lisa and Jim met before the wedding for a private moment in the garden and then welcomed their guests into the garden one by one. After exchanging rings, the a capella group sang "Happy Together" and Jim offered a toast to his wife Lisa. The night ended with cocktails, dinner and a wedding cake decorated with these really cool sugar bubbles. Thank you Lisa and Jim for letting me be a part of your day! Heather and Dale's Engagement Sitting

I photographed Heather and Dale's engagement sitting yesterday afternoon. Heather and Dale are planning a fall wedding at the Broadmoor. Heather grew up in a house just a couple of blocks from mine and she wanted to make some pictures on the swing in her yard. It was a challenge to keep their labs entertained while we photographed, but we managed:) Afterwards we headed to the Garden of the Gods and then over to Rockledge Ranch. This weekend was a nice reprieve for both. They are busy finishing up med school and preparing for their residencies. Click here to see a brief slide show of their engagement. And thanks Heather and Dale. I can't wait for your wedding! — Sean
