Jacob's Birth Story

Jacob was born March 3, 2010 at our home in Colorado Springs. A homebirth is not for everyone, but it can be a wonderful experience. Laura Luckett, the best midwife in Colorado Springs, helped deliver all three of our children at home. One nice thing about Jacob's birth was that Abby and Harper were welcome participants showing concern and helping out where they could. Click here to see a brief slide show of Jacob's arrival. And thank you Laura for helping to make the experience so rewarding for everyone! — Sean

Harper at 2 weeks

Cathy and I went to our follow-up appointment with Laura Luckett, our midwife, and this happened. I didn't have my camera, but Laura let me use hers to make this picture. Here I want to thank Laura for all she's done. Laura has overseen two births at our home and it's just been the most incredible experience. Laura and her partner Robin operate the Colorado Springs Midwifery Center. If you're having a baby and you want to remove the hospital experience from the birth experience, then consider Laura and Robin. They are both professional and personal... and they have extra cameras lying around when you really need one:) Thanks again Laura! — Sean

She's getting bigger!

I'm not sure if you can tell, but the last two weeks around here have been sorely lacking any family photography. One reason for that is that Cathy's been on vacation visiting her folks in Whitefield, New Hampshire and she took Abby with her. Well they're back, and you can imagine how big the crocodile tears were when I saw them in the airport. This morning we visited our midwife for a regular check-up and Abby got to listen to her own heart beat and Laura, our midwife, even measured her tummy. She's getting bigger. Just look at those shoes:) — Sean

Our little prawn

It's official. Cathy and I are expecting our second child in December. We plan on having the baby at home as we did with Abby. Our midwife Laura of the Colorado Springs Midwifery Center says this sonogram I've posted here shows our baby at about the size of medium prawn:) Not sure what that means but we're going to roll with it. It's a little scary thinking about a second child. I knew we could do one, but two is going to be more challenging. We have many friends with two children so it's nice to have some role models as well as people to lean on for advice. — Sean p.s. if you're watching this blog to see your wedding photographs come online, hang tight! We're working right now on them and promise to have them up very soon.

Welcome baby Lilah!

Lilah Rose was born at home to Kate and Don on Thursday, March 8 at 8:50 pm. She weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and was 20 inches long. I met Kate and Don through our midwife Laura at the Colorado Springs Midwifery Center. I've gotten to know them better over the past two years. Our daughters meet each week for "Happy Hour" aka, play group. I did a maternity session with Kate and the whole family a few weeks ago, click here to see that post. When Kate asked me to photograph her birth I didn't hesitate. It was an incredible experience. Congratulations to Kate and Don on their beautiful, healthy baby girl. Maeve will make a great big sister! —Cathy
